I bet everyone thought I'd be cycling to Seville today, come on that would have been far too easy. I've always wanted to go to Ronda and I was only about 70 miles away ... so why not. The morning was a bit overcast and quite chilly so I clocked the miles up in pretty uninspiring countryside., the traffic was bad, though with lots of wagons flitting between quarries etc. I reached Campillos the halfway point by 12:30 and had lunch in what looked a delightful little town. I then chose to add a few miles and take a detour to the nearby lakes to try to find some scenery - I thought Andalucia was a photographers paradise but so far I hadn't found it 😅. O reached a dried up valley and could see a little bit water in the distance ! On the climb back to my route the sun appeared and the view was suddenly, well Andalucian like ! With 26 miles to go the day really started, a 1500ft climb lay ahead which wasnt really the problem... The wind was annoyingly against again .. but that wasn't the problem either. No, for the next 26 miles, the road was a death trap... No verge beyond the white line, a nasty drop off of anything from 6 - 20 ft ! and very few laybys to rest. Additionally the road wasn't massively wide, so any car or wagon overtaking had to cross dangerously towards the oncoming traffic. I hated every minute and would never cycle this road again. There is one saving grace though ... Ronda didn't disappoint and at this time of year isn't overrun by tourists.
