Today was a big day. The Metric Century! I got up early today, in preparation for the ride. There was a bit of smoke in the air from local wild fires yesterday. I was hoping it would clear up. And it did! So, I kind of dodged that one. Before the ride began, (as I was getting suited up), I noticed I was getting tender soreness in my right calf, deep tissue. I wasn't sure what to make of it. It happened before, And when it did, it didn't escalate. Such was the case today. So I got out the door and headed to Keene. The first few miles is always discouraging. Going uphill into a headwind, legs feeling heavy and the ride just began. I cruised my way to the base. Soft pedaling. Keeping the mind where it needed to be. After reaching the base, I headed back. No stops. Before I forget, I adjusted my cleats before the ride began. I narrowed the stance by a couple millimeters. I noticed the improvement right away. The knees definitely complained less. The Keene ascent went well. Keeping the tempo steady. Mind focused on the landmarks. Keeping an eye on my legs. The right leg had hints of tenderness, but never escalated. After reaching the summit, I called home for bottles and headed to the lockers. I didn't spend much time. Swapped bottles and headed out. Today was a patience day. I told myself not to pay much attention to the mileage. But in placement on the route. OTR went well. When I reached the end, I decided to stop and feed. The stomach was a bit empty. I fed 1/2 a Power Bar. From there I headed to WS. Mostly relaxing on the way out. I headed back, no stoppages. The first 1/3 was mitigating the thorn alley. Really keeping an eye on the road for debris. I made it safe, through there. When I reached the summit, I stopped and fed the last half of the Power Bar. Shortly after, headed to Banducci. Banducci felt good. It felt like I had enough gears, and I wasn't laboring. The Alpine Forest felt just as good. The legs were responsive. No serious aches. Just the usual hint of fatigue. When I reached the summit of Banducci, I took a few moments rest. Thinking about where to Bio and if I needed additional provisions. The downhill was fun. Practicing the tuck. I made my way to SS safely. I decided to stop at the mini mart, as I was low on provisions. I filled a couple bottles with water and the other with Gatorade (that I bought). They didn't seem to have any energy bars. So, no goodies today. Perhaps I'll ask, next time. I headed out and went through the farmlands. It went as I expected. Averaging around 18MPH most of the way. The last climb felt good. I had enough legs in me, and they didn't complain. I kept the tempo steady. Getting out of the saddle when needed. I pushed over the summit. I recovered on the false flat and then the downhill through Route 202 (with mild traffic mitigation) and OTR. Mariposa didn't feel as painful today. From there it was the cruise home. Concentration was good. I was keeping the mind active. Trying not to let it drift too far. Ailments, consisted mostly of lingering right calf soreness, that never escalated nor detract much from my progress. I was stretching frequently, but not overly so. Balance and form felt better, with the cleat adjustment being noticeably favorable. Other notes, I saw 4 cyclists today as I was headed down Keene. And a lady with her child as I was making my way back from SS.
Other notes. I need to do the calculations for the GoPro camera and battery life. The battery bank lasted 4 hours before it was nearly depleted. That means, I have about 5:50 hours of record time with the first battery bank and internal GoPro battery.
