Today was an undecided day, but I knew it was going to be significant. I decided to go to the WS wind farms. Elsewhere TBD. I got up early, ate breakfast, took a nap got ready. It wasn't an ideal scenario. The gastro wasn't exactly agreeing. I had oatmeal with fruit and usual stuff for breakfast. Nevertheless, I made sure I did my bio before the ride. As best I could. I had the logistics worked out. Designating the meeting places and where to call home. I ended up getting out at around 11:20ish. A bit later than anticipated. It was warmer today than the previous ride. The legs felt good from the start. I made it to the end of OTR in 22 minutes. I was expecting slower as I wasn't pushing it. Highline went well. After the first ascent, the remainder was steady tempo to WS. The WS climb was more or less what I remember from last year. The first mile or two feels the slowest, as my legs take a while to set in. I was mitigating traffic as best I could, staying on the shoulder when possible. When I reached the summit, I pulled over to the side for a few moments. I then headed downhill. My most concerned part of Wind farm loop. I ended up taking it real easy. Doing no more than 25 MPH. Staying in the shoulder when traffic passed. That proved to work as I anticipated. When I reached Cameron, I pulled over and called home, left a message on the recorder. Shortly after, I headed up the quick mountain pass and to the 58. I called home before entering the freeway. Fortunately, the wind was on my back. Suffice it to say, the freeway leg went fast. The wind continued to be on my back till I neared the cement factory. At that point, I put it into easy tempo to WS Blvd. I met up with the folks at the designated area, just before Highline. Got provisions, a Cliff bar, and headed back on the road. So I had 3 full bottles and 2 energy bars. As I was making my way through Highline, the legs felt somewhat fatigued, but manageable. I pulled over at the summit and fed 1/2 of my Power Bar. I decided to head up Banducci and see how I felt. I did the lesser route to the summit. When I reached the summit, I took a few moments rest and had the last half of the Power Bar. I had a choice that would have worked just fine. I had enough provisions to do the non-loop route. I was thinking to myself about what they had at the mini-mart. That was enough to convince myself to do the greater loop route. I made my way to SS. I found a Porta Potty along the way, did a quick bio, and got back on the road. The legs were feeling the usual exhaustion, but still manageable. I made my way to the rear entrance and headed into town. When I reached the mini-mart, I bought a bottle of Grape flavored Gatorade and some ice water. The taste of the Gatorade was a morale lifter. I got back on the road and made my way through CV. I wasn't stretching as much as I should have, but I was changing my cadence once in a while. It definitely helped. So, I reached the base of the last climb. The legs were there and I didn't have to slave away. It was an effort I could sustain without letting up too much on the tempo. When I reached the summit, I soft pedaled and recovered. The legs, at this point were showing signs of soreness. I was stretching through the false flat. Route 202 was traffic mitigation. OTR was fun and games. Mariposa was a moderate push. From there it was the trip home. Concentration was good for the most part. It did test my patience. I had a few things to think about and the Walkman worked like a charm. Ailments consisted of slight gastro soreness to start. It got better as the ride progressed. I didn't get any ailing effects from the Power Bar this time. Some slight soreness in the calfs. And the usual fatigue from the effort. Balance and form felt good for the most part. Gear worked well. The camera turned off by itself, once. I turned it back on and hit the record button. It worked flawless from there. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
