The weather is great! Typical Spring weather for Tehachapi. I was a bit reluctant to get up, but I managed as I usually do. The temperature was around 60 degrees, winds from the North West. I wore arms, knees, a thick base layer and newspaper in the jersey for good measure. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good time. The Banducci Wall climb had traffic mitigation, so I was watching my six all the way up. I was near max going over the top. The Alpine Forest climb went quick. I had stuff to think about. My GPS announcements helped. I was near max going over the top. I zipped around the backside, having fun on the descents. After making it to the summit of Banducci, I pulled over to take a breather. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was mostly safe, I had a nice tailwind. There was some traffic mitigation, so I had to let them by. Descending off the Banducci Wall was safe. There was some traffic mitigation, so I played it safe by feathering the brakes slightly. After making it back to OTR, it was mostly fun and games. I pushed moderately over Mariposa and then made my way to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had stuff to think about, so that kept me focused and alert. Ailments were minimal. Some hand numbness. No pains from the inner quads today. Balance and form felt good. Nutrition was good. I fed half a banana, grapes, a bit of apple sauce and a Clif Bar. That held me over plenty. I was a bit lacking in energy when I got back, so I immediately fed a banana and some grapes. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, no cyclists today. The Alpine Forest guard was there. I waved to him, hoping that I wasn’t being too annoying.
Other notes, I removed my newspaper layer at the top of OTR on the way out.
