Excellent weather continues. In the upper 60's. Winds from the North West. The legs felt good from the start. The time went quick. I was through OTR and up Banducci in good time. When I arrived at the summit, I took a few moments rest. I think I was at around 36 minutes into the ride at that point. When I headed downhill, about a half mile down, the buckle on my helmet came loose. I was thinking what I should do. Pull over and buckle, or go to the bottom and do it there? I ended up pulling over, there was a shoulder near by. From there it was steady tempo to SS. I was doing 17MPH+ most of the way there. I was able to keep my momentum going through the back entrance. I practiced the tuck on the descent. Making it to the tunnel in about 59 mins and change. The wind remained the same, so I had an enjoyable time making my way out of SS and through the farmlands. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:20 and change. So, I gave up a minute in that brief period. At this point, the wind wasn't exactly consistent. Felt like I had a cross-head in some areas. The last climb felt good. I kept the tempo no less than moderate. Doing a modest push over the summit. From there it was recovery, traffic mitigation through Route 202 and fun and games from there. Concentration was good. No lapses worth noting. Perhaps a hint of gremlins on the OTR descent. Mostly benign. Balance and form felt good. Ailments.. Some mild lower back soreness. Maybe some right hand numbness. Gear is working well. I decided to bring my bike to the local bike shop and have them inspect the headset area. ETA 2 days. Will likely ride the mountain bike in the meantime. Perhaps ask Roger to join me?
