Salida to Hartsel COFood poisoning last night made this one of the hardest days of riding, even though it was over easy terrain. No power at all. Initial 3000 foot 11 mile climb out of Silida took almost 3 hours. Crossed 1000 miles so far.Route was through South Park, which is a big open plain divided into 20 acre lots with dilapidated trailers on each one. Kind of surreal in the middle of Colorado. Got hit with torrential rain half mile from my stop for the evening. Transamerica race goes through this town. I saw one rider on my way a second rider was in the convenience store (Adryon. ) who was doing this on a 20 year old US Postal Service bike set up as a fixie single speed. They are 11 days in 2000 miles into the race. He barely has anything with him tries to sleep in Post Office and lost his gloves the first day so he bought garden gloves as replacement. There are some really crazy people out there. I’m going to camp behind the saloon hopefully get some sleep and kick this food poisoning so I can get back on track.
