Last day of the ride for me as I need to head home tomorrow and miss the last scheduled ride from Pagosa Springs to Durango. This ride was an out and back with a summit of 10,800' at the Continental Divide. By now, the group size seems to have shrunk
Confusing start as I was staying in Durango with my kids and grandkids and people were going in a variety of seperate ways and I needed to get to Pagosa for a 7:30 start. It was even more confusing there as the start line was not marked, water was from a garden hose, and there was no time for any sort of breakfast before the mass start. Grabbed a muffin and ate it on the route.
First 15 miles were nice easy grade thru the countryside and then it pitched up to Wolf Creek pass where we were sharing the road with cars, motorcycles, logging truck, campers, large trucks etc. Then 8 miles of 6-8-10% grade. Everyone grinding up as best they could. We were warned that the downhill could be tricky due to large cracks that ran parallel to the white line for miles. If the front tire dropped into the tracks, it was not going to be pretty. Strong hot head winds the last 10 miles. Arrived back at Pagosa Springs where it was hot hot and my daughter and son picked me up within 30 minutes and we were on our way to Ouray for the night.
Data: Really manged the battery and had over 32% left at the summit. General rule was no assist below 4%. Level 1 from 4-6% Level 2 from 6% and above. Seemed to work OK
