Ignore everything after the first 40 miles. My Garmin was not turned off at the end of the ride. My other data source said we averaged 10.3 mph over the 40 miles. 1st 39.99 miles was spectaculor with blue sky, reasonable temps and views of the water to the Canadian Border. Riding with Keith and Jeff from the Y and a bike group from Gig Harbor. All better and faster bikers than me. Since the road was closed to all car traffic, the downhill was like a zen bike dream. Butbthe last 100' was a disaster. Just before I was going to take a right turn to the finish line, I had to merge out of the bike lane because of parked cars. Used my left arm to signal the merge and quick check looking back to make sure I was clear. In those 5 seconds I didn't see nor could I correct for the fact that there was a 10' long crack in the pavement that rose up 1". The rest is history. Went over the handlebars leaving skin from my forehead, face, nose, shoulder, hip and knee on the pavement but I don't remember a thing about the accident. I'm sure the local seagulls enjoyed what I left on the pavement. An aid car was 1/2 block away at the finish line but I was out of it. Ended up in ER with a mild concussion, bruised ribs and left shoulder pretty much useless. Bike kinda OK but won't be on it for awhile. Worst loss was a new pair of bibs and favorite Ride the Rockies jersey that was unceremoniously cut off of me so they could treat the skin rash and get the HRM's hooked up. Don't remember anything about the crash.
Starting PT this week to get the left arm back in the game ane will head back to the Y tomorrow for an easy spin class. Gotta get back on the bike to get over the accident. Or so they say
Except for the finish, I would do this ride over in a heart beat. Crap happens despite the best effort to avoid.
