Was supposed to be Riverside to Claremont to San Gabriel River Trail to Long Beach to Huntington Beach to the Santa Ana River Trail and back for 150 miles however as seems to almost always happen I got a goat head thorn flat on the rear just as I entered Claremont!
Upon finishing the flat repair and righting the bike back on its wheels I noticed a message on there Garmin 1060 saying Battery 🪫 Critical. Didn’t anticipate that as I charged it after every ride and I was only 3 hrs into this ride in cool overcast temperatures.
Then I plugged in my phone as it was at aboutt 60% battery 🔋 and got a message about moisture contamination of the charging port so it wouldn’t charge. Claremont is a critical point as once I’d of gotten to the SGBT there are no resources of any kind out there… just a bike trail for miles on end.
So I made the decision to turn back as I’d still have about a 75 miles day in the legs. 🦶🏽🦵🏾🫁🫀🚴🏾
Kind of weird how I had a head wind both ways again. I was looking forward to a tail wind on the inbound stretch from the coast to Corona at a little over 100 miles into the orig loop.
I think I’m going to reinvent “Tire Savers” from back in the day old days. They worked well to prevent the kind f punctures common out here.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
