The weather has warmed up. I was reluctant to get out of bed, but managed to do it. I got out just before 10AM, so pretty late. The temperature is in the 80's, winds from the North West. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had traffic mitigation. So, I was looking all around. I recovered on the flats and then finished the climb. There was quite a bit of traffic from behind. I made it to the top of Banducci in good average time. I recovered and let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was safe, with minimal traffic from behind. The trek through the farmlands was pretty quick. I had my music going to keep me company. I took a few moment to stretch on the bike after passing the front entrance to SS. Then I made my way around the backside. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio. Then I made my way into town. I passed the tunnel in around 1:03 hours. I stopped at the local Mini Mart to mix a powder drink. I got back on the road and made my way through the farmlands. It went relatively quick. Pellisier had minimal traffic mitigation so, I was able to use the majority of the road to avoid the potholes and bumps. There was a trio of riders ahead of me. I was keeping an eye on them. I passed Boss Hogs in about 1:28 minutes or so. So, I gave up 3 to 4 minutes on the return. The last climb went fast. The trio went to the right on the Bear Valley entrance road. They took a quick loop while I kept going forward. As I passed the next intersection, I could see them down the road to the right. They looked to be about 1 or 2 minutes behind. I went at my own pace on the last climb, but I tried not to let it go bellow moderate tempo. I pushed over the top and then stopped to feed. I was checking my 6 to see if they would catch up to me, but they didn't. I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. Two the cyclists caught up to me just before the end of the road. When I reached the top of CVR, I waited for traffic to pass before heading down the OTR. One of the riders that I caught up to said that I am welcome to join them. They ride on Saturdays and start at the Pizza place at the old Kmart parking lot. They seem to be very friendly. Nevertheless, I made my way to OTR. It was safe with no traffic from behind. Descending off OTR was relaxing. I pushed over Mariposa and then back home to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. Perhaps a bit impatient to start. The weather was on the hot side. I could feel my backside getting cooked by the sun for the duration of the OTR climb. Otherwise, I was able to hold it. After reaching the top of Banducci, I felt better in the morale. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The usual hand soreness. The joints cooperated. Perhaps a hint of soreness here and there, but nothing too detracting. Nutrition was good. I had oatmeal for breakfast and some grapes. I drank about two bottles of powder drink and some water with a Clif Bar during the ride. Gear worked flawlessly. I am going to lube the saddle to see if that fixes the mystery click problem. Other notes, I saw 3 cyclists and a familiar walker.
