So, yesterday was spent mostly relaxing in the shade by the store at Maple Vale Campground and catching up on reading. Our first night was quite quiet and relaxing, however the second evening was anything but relaxing. The two sites across the road from us began partying in the afternoon and continued partying even more loudly most of the night. Despite calls to Parkwatch at midnight and again at 2:00 AM, the drunken revellers next door did not give up until 3:00 AM. We stopped at the admin office on the way out this morning but no explanation was given for the lack of response. We will be following up on this matter with Sask Parks. The ground at the park was saturated and I remembered the trail to the Nicole homestead had some springs on it so we decided to take the long way around on grid roads to avoid encountering soggy trails along the lake. I will say one thing for RM’s around Lumsden, they have gravel and they are NOT afraid to use it! Holy Crap, talk about miles and miles of extra deep Saskie extra-crunchy! That, in addition to a NW wind at 30 gusting to 50 made for some pretty grim crosswind descents. We ended up walking one valley descent where the wind was funnelling between two hills. We did find some very nice field roads near Lumsden which almost made up for the ugly stuff earlier in the day. We decided to try the Craven World Campground, and what a little gem!! A large well treed area with some of the nicest bathroom/showers that we have run across. Pretty little tenting sites top off the experience. If you are in the Craven area, check them out.
