Last summer we rode the two Saskatchewan Rivers and really enjoyed it, so this year our plan is to ride the other two historic river systems in the province, the Qu’Appelle and the Assiniboine. Today we made our way to Outlook and tomorrow we head to Douglas Provincial Park where the Qu’Appelle river begins at the dam just south of the park. We also want to visit many of the First Nations and Metis historic sites along the way beginning today at the Round Prairie Cemetery just off 219, 44kms south of Saskatoon. Check out the pictures for a bit of the history of the settlement. Also we like to take the gravel farm road heading west from 219, 35 kms south of the city and then south back to 219, past a bison farm. We rode this stretch today and a herd of bison was in the pasture east of the road. They seemed especially skittish today and were really milling about as we rode by. The farmer came out and stopped us a little south of the farm and explained, very nicely, that this is rutting season and the bulls can get very aggressive towards anything nearby. So please avoid that little detour for the next month or so. It’s best not to irritate a huge horny bull 🦬! There is a warning sign on the fence at the corner of the pasture but we missed it entirely. It’s best to stay on the highway for now.
