So, today was what gravel riding is all about. Grid roads with light gravel and easy rolling clear paths, farm access roads with similar conditions, and miles and miles and miles of beautiful smooth field roads and two-tracks and virtually no traffic at all. Of the 80 kms ridden today nearly 50 kms were on some of the sweetest roads I have ridden in this province. We also came across 2 churches today, St Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and Kyiv Church (no more information available). These two churches were only a couple of miles apart and very similar in design, but were totally different in condition. St Michael’s is in beautiful condition with well trimmed grounds and a well tended cemetery. It was locked up and all the blinds drawn so we could only guess as to what was inside. Kyiv Church has been left to the ravages of the elements for a very long time, probably nearly 70 years. The cemetery has one internment from 2018 and the rest from the 1950’s. Such a stark contrast. We also found an interesting structure along a farm road not far from Watson and it took us a while to figure out that it is a small wind turbine in the process of erection.
