Today was cooler than the previous ride. I decided to do the Willow Springs n Back without Banducci. I need to let my sores heal as much as they can before the Gran Fondo ride. There were a few things that I was testing on this ride. My cleat positioning, my new cycling jersey, new gloves, and test my bike for mystery clicks. I set my cleats to put my shoes in a narrow stance. I could tell right from the start that it was comfortable and felt natural. It's going to take 3 or more rides to confirm the position. My new cycling jersey felt very comfortable. I was concerned that it was going to feel hot since it is a tighter fit than my previous jersey. The color stands out well in day light and likely more than the previous perlizumi jersey that I have. My thinking is that I'm going to keep 2 of them and decide what to do with my Pearlizumi's. Gloves are ok. I have to break them in. I have a blister on my right palm and the dye stained my hands a bit, just as was described in the Performance Bike feedback. As for the ride, it went well. I think the winds were favorable today. Perhaps that's why my legs felt lively. I was sufficiently warmed up by the end of OTR. I was unsure how I was going to ride the outgoing leg of Highline. I picked up some good speed for the first 1/4 mile or so, and the 1 mile climb was done well within my limit. When I got to the remainder of the ride, I noticed that I was going faster than normal. I was doing 40+ on the steeper downhill sections. After doing that, I just went for it. The wind was almost perfectly tail-wind. I was on the hoods most of the time, just drilling it. My legs felt pretty good balance, so I wasn't concerned about that. I made it to Willow Springs under 40 minutes. After turning around, I took a 1 minute breather and then proceeded to do moderate tempo, and pushed the pace on a few sections. The last portion of Highline was done in a low gear and just churning them over to get over the last kickers. From that point on, it was mostly relaxing and enjoying the downhill. I didn't have many ailments. My left knee had a sharp pain at some point in the ride, but went away just as quick. I have a blister on my right hand, but I suspect it will go away with time. Very little lower back pain. Concentration was good for the most part. I tried to keep my eyes straight up the road. This ride is perfect for that. Balance was good. I was surprised how well it felt with my cleats set for a narrow stance. Bike is working well, although there were some mystery clicks. When I reached the end of OTR, I reseated both wheels. From that point on, I didn't hear any noises. Other notes, I cleaned out my cleats and shoes yesterday. I also regreased the right pedal.
