Central and Streeter to Mt Roubidoux via surface streets and back. Started raining steady by the time I reached Mt Roubidoux as I was about to turn onto the SART and head towards Colton - Redlands. Coolness felt amazing however even in the streets I could see lots of broken glass and the trails have lots of sections where the unhoused folks have done what they tend I do. We need motorized trail sweepers! Heck if they had a human powered one I’d be game to dedicate plenty of training miles to doing the rounds! City of Riverside - are you listening? You supply the funding and I’ll know some frame builders that would take on such a project to build a couple of Human Powered Bike Trail and Bike Lane Sweepers. The city could own them outright, store them and pay for any on going maintenance and transport to sections or areas that need sweeping. Like roadside clean up volunteers (those green signs along the shoulders saying such and such a group or business is maintaining that section, there could be a phone tree of local cyclists and bike clubs that could be tapped into to pedal the Bike Trail Sweeper. The cityy would need to allocate or have available a pickup truck and trailer to haul the sweepers. Think of the message this would send out to every community with a bike population, paved trails and lanes! How many of you like this idea? Next step would be some rough drawings maybe get pictures and schematics of the motorized versions I’ve seen in Orange County. Talk with the parties I have in mind to do the prototyping and final builds, get design and builds cost analysts, then find out who in the City Council had resonance with our bike trails and lane use.
