Wednesday 17th Sep 2014.
Tony Hopkins leads. Iain MacDonald, John Hare, Michael ?, Angela Kemps, Stuart Morgan, John MacMillan and I follow.
Off to a cracking pace past Pinewood, and Farnham Common to elevenses at Burnham Beeches Cafe.
After refreshments we head sort of north. At Ship Hill the road is blocked by a spillage, or so a workman says. I enquire whether the spillage is either edible or drinkable (we would be only to ready to help!), but the otherwise amiable fellow is not forthcoming. Tony tries haggling but fails, so we divert down Harehatch Lane to the A355. Oh I forgot, John H missed the drama having left for Bourne End. So for the rest of us it is onwards and upwards through Beaconsfield, Knotty Green, Penn and Hazlemere to our lunch stop at The Polecat Inn at Prestwood, or Great Kingshill if you believe Tony. Yes we were there last Wednesday, but it's a great pub and the food is at least reasonably priced.
After much gaiety and silly jokes, we are on our way again. The return leg takes us past Holmer Green and Winchmore Hill. Crossing the A355, we ascend Bottrells Lane. Angela makes her own homeward journey from here. Past Chalfont St Giles, Tony misses the left turn at Gold Hill towards the town centre at Chalfont St Peter; but it puts Iain and I on the right heading for Gerrards Cross. Saying our goodbyes, the two of us continue to Tatling End. Iain leaves me standing and takes the direct route back to Uxbridge. I meander through Denham Village and the golf course.
Weather warm and dry.
