Thanks to Emily Bei Cheng for putting this crazy horse route together. It was so much fun visiting parts of the city we’ve never been to before.
Apparently the way to celebrate the Year of the Horse is by going the wrong way! 🤣
A trail closure thwarted us from completing the front foot.
When Emily first sent me the route, I thought it looked gorgeous but also that it didn't look too bad for climbing. I was so wrong about that. We did a lot of steep SF climbing today. By the time we were done with our first loop of the Presidio, my legs were starting to feel it.
I guess the fatigue also got to me because I saw a sign for the business on the corner that said, "Polish" and I asked Emily, "Polish (nationality) what?" And when we got closer she read, "Polish: Nail and Beauty Supply" but she read it as the nationality first and then we realized, "Oh it's polish, not Polish!". We had a good laugh.
It was hard day to dress for too. It wasn't quite cold enough for all the layers but the incoming storm is bring pretty chilly winds. So I was cold during some of the flat sections, especially after I got sweaty on the climbs.
I had no idea SF had so many one way streets and we managed to go the wrong way on most of them. Emily didn't realize. It started to become funny when I would look ahead at the turn we were about to do and see we were going to do the wrong way. I wish I had kept count of the number of times. I don't know if it would've helped to do this route in reverse. I feel like we still would've had to go the wrong way on some of them.
I also asked if this was a gravel ride because I did see some dirt that didn't look like it was flat but Emily said it was road. There was enough loose, non-flat, dirt (and really bad roads) that we could've ridden gravel bikes.
We even had a sand section through GGP. The first time we walked it but the 2nd time through, I rode the last section like a cyclocross champ!
