That was fun! And this week is the start of a heat wave but luckily it was not crazy hot (but it became hot when we got to lunch). I wasn't expecting Ant to be around today so I was happy he messaged me about riding. Because of the forecast, I originally was going to suggest Skeggs/Alice's for the shade but he suggested Dirt Alpine first and I routed it so we were in the shade for as much of it as possible, especially when we had to climb. He wanted an easy ride but there is no easy way out after descending White Oak Trail. But we have to do it as it's one of the best trails in the area. Descending Ancient Oaks Trail, near the bottom, a couple corners before the last root section, there were some hikers and I was about to shout a warning when I bug flew right into my throat. Nice! Ant was closer to me on White Oak so I had him lead out on Hawk Ridge Trail so I could see where he was at. Once the trail opened up to the view, Ant hit a baby head with his pedal. From my point of view, it looked like he hit the rock with his rear derailleur or wheel and the rear end just jumped up and to the left. I was surprised his derailleur was intact from such a heavy impact. It makes sense that it was a pedal strike instead. I haven't done Crazy Pete's in a while and the upper part of the trail seemed pretty beat up. The other reason, I was okay with this choice was because Ant paired it with Alpine Inn for lunch. I forgot until this morning that they're closed on Monday's. A bummer but we went to Amigo's Grill instead.
