Trying to start my next phase on the right foot, I wanted to tackle an ambitious amount of kilometres! Just short of 90km, it was actually fairly easy due to the lack of tough elevation. I set off at about 6:30 and only stopped briefly a couple of times.
The coastal routes here were so beautiful, with ample opportunities to get off the main road. The water was absolutely crystal clear, some of my favourite sights were when you could see the train line between the road and the coastline, a very anime type sight. I passed the Tsunoshima bridge which is a massive 2km bridge that goes to a nearby island. I stopped to take a photo from a viewpoint and then about 20+ motorbikes also rocked up to take photos. It seemed like a very popular spot.
After that I stopped at a cafe for a quick iced latte. It's only 23 degrees but you can already feel the heat coming, this weather is absolutely perfect though. I had a brief chat with the baristas and some other guys and told them what my trip was, much to their amusement.
Also it's Mother's Day today and I had a nice call with Mum, shoutout to you 😌
On one of the coastal back roads I ran into a a couple from Quebec who had been cycling from Osaka for about a month. They said I was the first other cycle tourist they ran into which is crazy to me! We had a nice brief conversation and they went on their way in the other direction.
I got my dinner from a supermarket and brought it to my campsite. I was humbled at the very end of my ride, after not having to get off and push my bike once all day I was suddenly met with a steep 100m climb through a narrow road that was heavily covered in branches from falling trees. I like these roads though, in all honesty they're some of my favourite and I find them interesting and fun.
Tonight I'm sleeping on a free beach campsite, I got here super early at about 3:30 I think so have just been dilly dallying. I had a swim in the ocean and set up my tent, ate my food and just lied down on the picnic table a bit. There are two other foreign couples in vans that eventually pulled up and must be staying here for the night too. Let's be honest I'll be gone in the morning long before they wake up so I doubt we'll chat!
