I got up nice and early again, setting off to finish the last bit of the mountain climb I started the day before. Pushing myself to the top, I believe it was 887m above sea level. From there I thought it was 'mostly' a downhill to Hiroshima, but it turns out I had two major climbs ahead of me. The first one was tough but after the top was were beautiful Edo period rice farms with stone walls that held the water in pouring from the mountain streams. After that gorgeous view, my planned route took me through a big section of a long back road that was nice to ride through the country towns without the traffic. About 60km in I hit the final big hill which absolutely killed me. I was walking in blistering heat as I couldn't handle any more pedalling. I got to the top where there was a 7-11 and I finally got food in. However, I kept my appetite for what was next. I stopped at Macca's for 2h to get some fries and charge me stuff and then rode I to Hiroshima for my first ever gluten free okonomiyaki experience! It was a pork, egg and cheese okonomiyaki with rice flour Udon noodles. It was delicious!!! Then I had an onsen at a small public bath around the corner, where the lady who took your money could see in both men's and women's sections which was kind of funny. But, the more I use these public onsens the more I realise it's normal for the workers to see everyone naked regardless of gender. Post onsen I cycled to my campsite with a brief stop at 7-11 and Aeon for some food. By the time I got to the campsite I was walking up the hill in the dark as my light had lost power and it was well past sunset. I got to my campsite fine though! Hiding my food far from my tent tonight as there are wild boar warnings. It wouldn't be my first time encountering one!
