Did this on Day 4 day of Battlefields (which I DNF). to get states PA and WV. What an awesome route! The last time it was ridden was 2019, so I was a bit concerned about changes. Again I ran into periods of light rain but the temp was mid 50's - 60, so the rain was ok, just more annoying. From the Sterling hotel, I drove to Williamsport, the official start, to start the ride. Right from the start the route was interesting as I saw a marker about George Washington and the French-Indian war. I knew the route went to Hancock, MD yet I did not recall that it was not a direct route there as I had many miles in WV! So I was left wondering to self about how many more miles to Hancock! Finally in Hancock I used a little city park toilet, mile 34.2, Joseph Hancock Jr Primitive Park! Nice. The riding after Hancock, MD as it meandered into PA and back to MD was gorgeous! At 1 place I stopped to ask the guy standing outside holding his dogs, what state I was in! Then at mile 52.7 was a road closed ahead sign! I really did NOT want to work out a detour and guessed and hoped I could walk around the reason the road was closed. So a bit down that road I spotted a couple men outside an open garage and approached them to inquire about the closure. They seemed to be sons to an older man that was piddling in the garage. They were not sure of the nature of construction other than to say that a car could not get through. So I decided to try to get past the closure, after they explained the detour and that I would encounter a large german shepherd dog on the detour. See pic for the construction that I was able to walk through as they were working on a crossing and since Sunday, nobody working. Then around mile 58.7 as I emerged from the forested area to an open, flatter, ag area, I could see a McDonalds freeway sign way in the air and thought! Yahoo I am about back to the start. TUrns out that was premature. I had about 10 more miles to ride. That was a McDonalds in a different town ( Clear Spring). All said, this is a great route that should be mandatory for riders in the area. Mimo says he has ridden on many of these roads.
