Kobe is very close to Osaka, as you can see I only did 45km this day. I didn't rush leaving my hostel, but I still left at a decent time. The first thing I went to was a gluten free vegan cafe nearby. I've been a bit reinspired by veganism recently, since so many of the gluten free places were also vegan yet the food is still so delicious. This place had been opened less than a year ago. The owner worked in advertising and his wife is vegan, so he started the cafe as a project to see how successful he could run the business. You could tell he put a lot of effort in, before the cafe was open he was already roasting and selling coffee beans for a few years.
He gave me some takeaway coffee bags and a gf donut as a present for my trip. The food was BANGIN.
After that it was basically just main roads. At one point I stopped at a cafe to relax because I felt really tired, but the atmosphere was definitely not very relaxing (they didn't have tables, only benches in a tiny store. The coffee was nice but I left pretty quickly.
I made a small detour into Amagaski to try and find bear spray again. This time... it was a success! The owner asked if I was going to Hokkaido and warned me that I can't take bear spray on planes. "No worries, I'm cycling there anyway" I told him. He wanted to come out and see my bike and I told him about what I was doing, to his amusement. He gave me some emergency instant mashed potatoes for if I find myself camping with little food around. Thank you kind sir!
The hostel in Osaka was very welcoming, but I quickly grasped that I wasn't going to make any friends there. Back in touristy town I suppose. I decided to book a language exchange event for the night to practice my Japanese.
I got there a bit late after getting the address wrong. It was a fun event, some interactions were difficult due to some group dynamics, but towards the end I got to practice some good Japanese! Kan-san taught me some Kansai-ben (Osaka dialect).
久しぶりやん!毎度毎度
I got back about midnight and went straight to bed.
