Last day is here! 200k only. When I arrived at the end hotel on Day 3, they asked when I would start Day 4, because they said groups were planning to start at 4am to beat the heat. So even though another later day of 10pm, I was ready to go at 4 am on Day 4.
I rode about 10 miles solo and a group of 7 came by and hooked up with them! I felt great and could easily stay with them even up the climbs. This was fun!
In this SIR group, the stronger ones would peddle to top of a hill and stop and wait for the slower ones. That is why I have so many no moving stops up to mile 45.
Then I had a flat at mile 45, so lost the group. Dang it. Rode solo over to the little out back of mile 62 where the group was getting ready to leave, but I needed a pee break and some liquid. So the chase began again. I was never to catch them. I spent 8 minutes at the turnaround! Not bad, still not fast enough.
Oh, somewhere around mile 52 Mike and his group of 2 passed me. They were flying! He was also at the turnaround when I arrived.
Rode solo rest of the time!
No other real stops except for nature break on the road. That climb up Capital Forest was a challenge for me. Another cyclist just rode right by. Then as I approached Black Lake, mile 120.8, I was confused about where I was! Then I recalled how this was a different way to enter town.
Mile 123.2 presented another challenge. A construction road sign said the road we needed for the route was closed. But I guessed the sidewalk might be open, so I rode down the hill and found out nope! Closed. So after a minute talking to the lady, I pedaled back up the hill and figured out how to get around the closure. Got back on route at my mile 126.2 Yes it added time and distance to an already hot ride, but I was back in town and knew I could finish.
This day was the prettiest, calmest traffic day of all! Too bad I lost the group. Stopped time of 54 minutes. Finished at 3:30pm. Nice.
Sat at end hotel and had the pizza they had. Mike walked in and we ate and talked a bit.
Overall this was a great 4 days of cycling.
