As we left Uxbridge it began to rain lightly, then moderately, then heavily. We ignored it. By the time we arrived at Manners Cafe, Boston Manor we were in varying states of wetness. Ian MacDonald was there waiting to greet us and was that a glimmer of sunshine?
After a quick tea and coffee we ventured back outside just as several huge gusts of wind went rattling past. The cafe staff came rushing out to collect in the chairs and put down the billowing awning. We returned to the cafe to build up courage. Oh what joy cycling can be!
I could describe the route, but I was lost pretty much straight after leaving Uxbridge. We did take in the pretty lock descent on the Grand Union, a couple of graveyards, several parks, the remains of a windmill, and some large open heath-land areas. Suffice to say it was a standard Margaret route.
Lunch was at the New Ham Inn, Ham. Sausage and Mash was the choice of the day with 5 takers, it was a good choice. We surreptitiously dried our socks on the radiator as we ate.
The afternoon was populated with a steady sapping headwind, the odd burst of sunshine and a continuous stream of left and right turns into narrow back streets. Fortunately we didn't lose sight of Margaret as none of us knew where we were!
Afternoon tea was at Moniz Cafe, Cranford. It was a refreshing break from the wind. The final leg was through Cranford Park and Stockley Park.
