I got up around 7:15 AM. Had breakfast. I was going to take a nap, but decided to get out early. Weather was cool. Probably upper 40's, low 50's. I wore arms, knees and brought my skull cap. I wasn't sure about provisions. So, I brought an extra bottle of Gatorade, attached to my fork. The body felt pretty good. It took a while to get warmed up. Sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. I had a bit of climbing to do, so I had to be careful where to burn my matches. The was from the North West. I had a headwind going up the Banducci wall. So, I kept the tempo moderate and in the 32 tooth over the top. Alpine Forest went well. I found a good pace that didn't put me into the red. I was keeping my mind occupied and counted off the speed bumps. I noticed that it was getting cold, so I made a plan to put my skull cap on, when I reached the summit. When I reached the summit, I did exactly that. I let traffic by and then headed downhill. I'm glad my skull cap, because the descent got pretty cold! I reached the base and then made my way to SS. No stopping. The wind remained from the North West, just the way I like it. I made my way around the back side of SS and then back downhill into town. I reached the tunnel in about 1:20-ish hours. Give or take a few minutes. By the time I reached the end of SS, I was feeling the wind on my back. The trek through the farm-lands went fast. I had to stop once to re-attach the front bottle holder, as it shook loose from the previous miles. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:24-ish hours. About what I expected. Loosing a minute or two along the way (from SS). The last climb felt good. I kept the tempo steady and stretched just before the slope tilted up. After cresting the summit, I was able to recoup and continue. Interesting, that I didn't go through my bottles as fast as I anticipated. I still had about 25% left when I reached the summit. And a full bottle of water. I decided not to drink the Gatorade, so that I can save it for later. From here, it was mostly fun and games, back to home. Concentration was good. I had some things to think about and my morale was reasonably good. Ailments were next to none. Some GI mild soreness. I was rationing my Accelerade intake to compensate. Gear worked flawless. Balance and form was good. Other notes, no cyclists today.
