I underestimated today's weather. The smartphone said low 50's. I stepped out the door. And, it felt about that temperature. I got my gear on and headed out. I reached the summit in good average time. Turns out that the wind was colder than I anticipated. I wore enough, but forgot to bring my skull cap. I was feeling cold on the descent. The ears weren't getting sore, so it was tolerable. I made it to the base. I didn't check my time, though. I headed back with no stopping. The legs felt good from the get-go. Didn't take much time to get warmed up and I was ticking over the landmarks in good time. I was within my limits. Not so much red-lining. Putting in good efforts on the steeper slopes. Once over the Loop Monument, I was able to settle into a good tempo. At this point, I was sufficiently warm and no longer bothered by the cold wind. I think there was slightly more traffic than usual, so I was having to keep situation awareness. I was doing the numbers, less than 15 minutes from the summit. Just trying to estimate my ETA to the summit. I made it to the summit feeling strong. No digs. I kept the power down over the top. I stopped to swap out GoPro batteries and then headed home. Concentration was good. I had some things to think about and I'm enjoying my music speaker. Balance and form was good. Ailments, next to none. Perhaps some GI bloating, but nothing too detracting. Gear worked flawless. My left knee warmer started to ride down my leg as I was nearing the summit. Slight annoyance, is all. Other notes, no other cyclists today. There was a crowd at the Loop Monument as I was ascending past it.
