This place has some steep climbs but really fun descents!
Today's was nice but last week's ride, doing the north loop, is more scenic. To be fair, riding along the ridgeline on Dutch Flat Trail might be more stunning if it wasn't for the fog.
Last night it rained but fortunately the trails were pretty dry. Only muddy in a couple small spots.
The climb up Yerba Buena Trail and Dutch Flat Trail were steep, steeper than Halls Valley Trail that we did last week. All worth it for the gorgeous and fun descents though.
At the top of the first and highest peak on Dutch Flat Trail, there's a picnic table where we stopped for lunch. We only ate half our food as it was windy and cold.
When we first started, it was as warm as last week in the parking lot and we were debating what to wear and what to bring knowing that it was going to be windier and colder overall than last week. I decided to leave the arm warmers on and take off the knee warmers and just bring the vest. For a while I was able to get away with just shorts and short sleeves but I put the arm warmers and vest back on for the descent.
By the time we got to the bottom, it felt colder than when we started. Luckily, the first loop brought us back to the car so I grabbed the knee warmers and finger gloves. I'm so glad I did because of cold it was up on the foggy ridgeline.
I tried to do the Edwards Loop but when we got to the trailhead, the spot in the fence where it looked like you should be able to go through was barb-wired.
Once we got down from the ridgeline and back to the valley floor, the ride was practically done. I asked the guys if they wanted to do the north loop too - my legs were feeling good and I didn't feel like we had done a very long ride - but they said they were good. The climbing we did was pretty hard but after all the hard climbing I've been doing the past little while, I think I'm getting used to it.
Looking forward to roller coastering at JDG again soon!
