It's raining out. Perfect for a Zwift ride. I decided to join an 11AM ride. It was about 26 miles in distance. Unlike a RW ride, there's no commuting to the start point. so, I was able to get ready much quicker. I joined the group with about 5 minutes to go. I wasn't sure what to expect. The description showed 1.5 - 5 W/kg. At the get go, it was tough to keep pace because the trainer doesn't work well for flat terrain. I was having to put it into my 52/11 just to keep up. After about 5 minutes, there were already groups on the road. I found a group that I was able to hang with. I knew that there was about 600 feet of climbing per lap. Being that this is my favored territory, I kept that in mind. The ride went fast. Both perceptive and pace. I didn't see anyone telling the people to keep the group together. It felt like a big club ride. After about 10 minutes, my HR stabilized around 150 BPM. I didn't push the pace. As soon as i was in the front of my group, I let up just a bit, to sort of control the pace. When I reached the uphill sectors, I was able to use my lower gears and it felt more familiar. All the while, people were chatting away. It kept me entertained, and had me wondering how were they typing and riding at the same time. After the first lap was over, I knew what to expect for the second. I played it patiently. Waiting for the uphill's to move up. Overall, I got a real high tempo workout. I put out an average of 195 Watts. That's a PB. When the ride was over, you cross the start/finish and you are teleported to the open public map. Concentration was spot on. I was entertained from the start. Ailments, I had a lot of hand numbness. I was having to sit down and shake them off. I was out of the saddle more than in. Gear worked perfect. Although the trainer is horrible on the flats. Nutrition was good. I had some Gatorade, no water. Balance and form was ok, I felt a bit wonky in the saddle. I can't match the power in the saddle that I can do while out. Other notes, there were over 550 riders. I finished somewhere in the top 190-ish. Definitely a great way to spend one hour of high tempo training.
