I decided to go to SS today. The wind was not in my favor, but it wasn't super difficult. The legs felt pretty good from the start. I made it to the end of OTR, but I didn't check my time. Probably in good average. Banducci was a tough grind. There was traffic from behind, so I had incentive. More of the same to the summit. Doing good tempo and pushing it over the top. I pulled over for a few moments. The GoPro battery was at 70%. So, plenty of charge remaining. The descent wasn't much fun because of the turbulent wind conditions. I was getting knocked around, so it was difficult to hold my line. I was having to ride my brakes. As I was passing Pellisier, on my way to SS, the wind shifted to a partial headwind. It gave my morale a bit of a boost, knowing that I'd have a tailwind on the way back. I made my way up to the SS back entrance and headed down into town. I passed through the tunnel in about 57 minutes. I cruised my way through town and headed back on Banducci. I had the tailwind that I was hoping for. But, when I reached Pellisier and made the left turn, I was getting battered by the wind. I was able to hold 15 MPH for a good chunk of it. But it got worse. CVR was a big grind. I was having a tough time holding 10 MPH. I think I lost about 6 minutes when I reached Boss Hogs. I didn't bother to check my time, though. When I reached the base of the last climb, I pulled over to check the GoPro battery. It had enough charge to last the duration of the climb. When I reached the summit, I kept the tempo going, but no digs. I pulled over to swap out the GoPro battery and then got back on the road. I made it to Route 202. There was tons of traffic from behind. I made it safe to OTR. I pulled over once more to take photos. Otherwise, mostly fun and games. Concentration was ok, a bit sketchy. I was having to keep my mind occupied. At least the morale was good. Balance and form felt good. Ailments were minimal. Some quad soreness on the last half hour or so. Gear worked flawless. I have to lube the chain as it was squeaking in the last 20 minutes. Nutrition was good. I consumed all of my Gatorade, but had a full water bottle remaining. Other notes, I must have seen about 6 cyclists today. There was a red-tail hawk perched on a stop sign as I was making the right turn onto Country Club. It flew away before I managed to take a photo. But, I might have got it on the video.
