Another gloomy day. Perfect for Zwift. I joined the 'C' group. They did what I've been wanting. The mountain route. I had plenty of time to get on the trainer, so no scrambling. I got on the start line about 9 minutes to go. The legs felt reasonably fresh. I wasn't sure what to expect for the first few miles, leading up to the climb. After the ride started, it was the usual pedal to the metal. The pack was strung out right from the beginning. Much faster than the other stages that I did. I was able to find a small group that was placed around 50 to 60 out of 150-ish riders, total. I kept up with them till the climb started. I let a few people go and gave some time for my legs to warm up. I waited till after the bridge to start increasing the tempo. I was doing 3W/kg most of the way up. Sitting down to drink, wipe sweat and shake the sore hands. I was able to hold my position at around 50th place for the duration of the climb. No sprinting to stay on wheels. Just a steady tempo at around 140 to 155 BPM. I made it to the summit and I think I got top 30. Then the bonus climb. I put it into a small gear and was out of the saddle most of the time. After I reached the summit, I took a few moments to recoup. Then the downhill into town. I was able to let my HR recover, soft pedaling here and there when the speed was above 40 MPH. The last part was going through the flat and rolling terrain. A group bridged up to me and I was able to hold their wheels. Up until the last mile or so, as it was every man for themselves. I finished in good time. In the top 40 placings. Concentration was good. Riding with others was very captivating. I had my music blasting at the same time. Ailments, the hands were sore and went numb every 10 minutes or so. It forced me to sit down and let the circulation back in. Balance and form was good. I was able to practice putting the power down while in the saddle. Although, most of the high wattages were done while out of the saddle. Gear worked perfect. Nutrition was good. I had about 1/2 Gatorade and no water. Other notes, I think there were about 15,000 Zwifters today. Probably 10,000 of which were on the Watopia map.
