Another gran-ride, metric century. Today's ride was all about the weather. It was in the mid to upper 80's, winds were turbulent. It shifted from tail to cross to head. In the end it was a tailwind going up Keene. I wore the standard kit. I woke up in the early morning feeling nauseous. I wasn't sure what to make of it. I almost felt like vomiting. I tried sleeping on my stomach and that helped. Sometime around 9am, I decided to get something to eat and see what happens. I had a bowl of cereal. After eating that, I felt better. So, I toasted some waffles with jam. I continued to feel better. It was after having fed that I was sure I could do the ride. I still feel a bit squeeze, but not was bad as the morning. My legs felt somewhat heavy to start. I decided to keep the tempo real easy. I used OTR to warm up. I can't remember exactly, but sometime after reaching Route 202, I felt better in the legs. There was a cross head-wind on the way out. I decided to take it easy. After reaching the turn-around point, I started with a modest pace and picked it up to a moderate pace. All the while, I was careful to scan the ground for debris. I was taking no chances in flatting on this ride. Fortunately, in that regard, there were no mishaps. I had a tailwind going up Banducci, so I was able to keep my pace steady, but not too slow. From that point, I recovered on the flat section and made my way to the summit. I took a minute or two break when I reached the summit. As I made my way out to SS, the wind had changed to a headwind. I played it safe and kept my body well within my limits. This was more of the same till I reached the summit of SS. The downhill was fun and games. I think I reached 40MPH+ on the downhill. I stopped at the local quickie mart and got some drinks. Filled my bottles, drank the remainder and took off. My next task was to cross the farmlands. The winds were turbulent, so I couldn't put my foot down at any moment. More or less, just steady and cautious. I had to decide where to feed, as I was well into the ride. I was thinking at the base of CVR climb. But decided to feed after summiting. This took about 3 minutes. My legs got cold, so I started modest across the false flats. Route 202 and OTR was fun and games and a welcome reprieve. When I got to the mailbox, I swapped out bottles. Mom and dad happened to be there just as I stopped. They were kind enough to take my left over provisions and stuff. Shortly after, I headed towards the top of the descent to Keene. It's always a chore as there is normally a headwind. That was no exception today. Suffice it to say, I was plenty warmed up by the time I made it to the summit. The downhill was mostly coasting, but I kept pedaling to keep my legs from locking up. I made it to the base in no time. I turned around just as quick. I felt pretty good at this point. Just the usual sensation of exhaustion. I tried my best to stay away from my pain threshold. I was successful in this regard. I was happy to make the summit in what I had planned in my mind. Concentration was very good today. I had some lapses here and there, but nothing I couldn't reel in. Ailments were next to none. I had some minor soreness in the hips, knees, hands (the palm), and the usual sense of fatigue in the legs as I approached the last 3rd of the ride. Balance and form wasn't great, but it got better as the ride went along. Gear is working good. I used the power bank. It didn't maintain the GoPro charged. But, it did extend the record duration to more than 2.5 hours. I'm getting a skeleton housing tomorrow and hope that connecting the power bank to the camera will work better than connecting it to the Battery BacPac. More tests to come upon arrival of the new hardware. Other notes, I saw at least 3 if not 4 deer as I was making my way down OTR. I waved to the car behind me. He passed me a little ways down the road and gave me a courtesy wave.
