Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

Well, it was a perfect day for a Caliente ride! It went as planned. I followed my "to do" lists, so that I didn't forget anything. I had eggs on rye bread for breakfast. I assembled all my stuff, got ready, put everything in the car and headed out. When I got to the parking lot, there was no one there. But there were a bunch of cars parked on the other side. I decided to stick with my game plan. I parked exactly where I wanted after checking the area for debris. I go there on time, departing around 9AM. After assembling all my gear and put all my kit on, I set out. The first few miles felt a bit sluggish. I was getting warmed up, so no panicking. There was a slight headwind on the way out. I was hoping that I'd have a tailwind on the way back. After about 5 to 10 minutes into the ride, I was trying to remember if I closed the passenger doors. I couldn't remember. I was in a bit of hate. I was debating on risking it by just continuing, or turn around to check. I have it 5 minutes to think about a plan. I ended up stopping at the fork. I realized that I had my GoPro camera rolling before I departed. The camera can playback footage. So, I checked the footage after fumbling through the menus. To my relief, I was able to see that I did in fact close all doors. So, from there, it was game on. The miles went quick. I was looking at the elapsed time, more than anything. I had to BIO at about 1:15-ish hours. Next was to think about where to feed. It was about 16-ish miles where I stopped to feed an entire chocolate Cliffbar. Shortly after I got back on the road. The most difficult part of the ride lay a few miles up the road. To my recollection, there were about 5 risers before reaching the summit. I was micro-managing my effort. I never let my HR to go into the red zone. I concentrated on my breathing and trying to keep my cadence sustainable, even if it required tacking. I followed this plan the whole way up. I think my gut was a bit bloated, but only so much to be noticeable. So, I kept that in check. After making it to the fire station stop. I pulled over to recoup. I checked the phone signal, there was none. So, I went to the other side of the road where there was better line of site. I picked up the signal there. I sent mom and dad a text message and then checked my car location. All was good, I was happy. I filled up my Fid-lock bottle with Gatorade from my extra bottle. Then the downhill. That went quick. But, I noticed that I had a headwind on the way down. So, no tailwind to be found. A few miles down, I pulled over to Bio again. I made my way around the valley and back onto the Walker Basin Road, left turn. Somewhere around there, I stopped to take a photo. I was feeling a bit depleted in energy. I could tell that it was time to feed. I found a nice place to relax and pulled over. I fed another chocolate cliff bar. I chugged some Gatorade. I had about 3/4 of Gatorade and half a bottle of water. I was a bit concerned, but I knew I was going to make it back without rationing. The last climb felt good. Pretty much following the same plan as the first major climb. I pulled over near the summit to take photos. Another half mile or so, I made it to the summit. When I got there, I checked the phone and I had reception. I sent the folks another text message. I think I checked my car location. Everything looked good. I headed downhill, shortly after. It was a blast. I stopped once to take photos and then another to take photos of a bunch of cows grazing. As I was about to hop back on the road, there was a guy on a motorcycle that noticed me. He was a guy that lived in the neighborhood, here in Tehachapi. We chatted for a few minutes and gave each-other good incentive. I made my way down the remainder of the climb. After reaching the fork and making a right turn, I had it made. I had enough provisions and energy. I was happy. I made my way back to the parking lot and my car was there exactly as I left it. I turned off my gizmos, put my bike on the stand, cleaned up a bit and had my P&J sandwich. I put all my gear in the car. I left nothing behind. Concentration today was good. I had a bit of disconcertion in the first 3 to 4 miles, but it turned around to enthusiasm after I was able to determine I left the car in safe order. I listed to my body signs almost the entire way. Pretty much micro managing my effort. Balance and form was good. Gear worked great. The Di2 stopped working after the last descent less than a mile down. Apparently the wire disconnected from the front junction box. After reseating it, all was well. Ailments were minimal. I experienced some gastro bloating. Of course exhaustion in the legs. None of which was too detracting. Nutrition was excellent. I had enough provisions and fed at the right times. Other notes, I saw about 5 cyclists on the way up the more challenging climb as I was descending. No other cyclists to be seen.
