I had a bit of trouble falling asleep last night but once I did I slept great and a little late. It was in the mid forties but once the sun came up the temperature rose really fast.
I eventually rolled away and began a series of short climbs. Before I dropped out of the mountains I filtered a good bit of water as most of the day from there would be trending downhill.
Once I decended down out of the forest and back into a more open range landscape, it became pretty hot and I was glad to have topped off my bottles. I went in and out of public lands and after some rolling hills and short climbs I descended to the Dolores river. I was going to pause here for a break but I decided against it. A cloud above me forced out some light drizzle that helped shade and keep me cool while climbing back out of the canyon. I decided to press on to Dove Creek.
It was just like being back on the other side of the Rockies in Eastern Colorado. Farms and farmhouses. But everything here looks incredibly dry, much drier than the great plains. Which makes me scared for all the long water carries ahead of me.
I eventually got to Dove Creek and found some water. I really wanted to push on into Utah to the next town and camp there but I was really tired today. So I found a patch of BLM land just off the route north of town and am camping here tonight.
