It's hot again. I have an appointment at 1PM, so I got out a bit earlier than usual. The wind was a bit turbulent, but mostly from the South East. I made my way to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill and put two efforts on the risers. After making it to the base, I turned around and headed back up the mountain. I didn't bother to check the time on the GPS. It was a slow ascent. The heat was all over the place, including the air. I was listening to my music to keep me company and focused. I counted off the landmarks, but tried not to be so impatient about it. After making it past the Loop Monument, the morale began to feel better. I kept the tempo moderate and staying out of the red zone. I was out of the saddle most of the time. In the saddle to mitigate hand soreness, hydrate and just to recoup a bit. After making it to the summit, I was able to relax and make my way back home. Concentration was good, despite the heat. The music definitely helped. Balance and form was good. Ailments, some hand soreness and numbness while out of the saddle for extended periods. Gear worked perfect. Nutrition was spot on. No hunger signs. I had most of my Gatorade and some water. Other notes. They announced the other day that Tehachapi will be holding a 20 and 40 mile bike ride event. It's slated for the 25th of September. I'm putting that on my to do list. I'll need to put in some doubles to prepare for it. Otherwise, no other cyclists today. There was a nice train at the Loop Monument with one lucky tourist able to watch it. The viewing area is the same. No sign of parking areas.
