I'm now starting to put in the miles to train for the 40 mile "T" ride next month. Alpine Forest + Tour de Teh (SS,R) seemed to fit the purpose. The temperature is hot, but the air was a bit on the cool side. I got out as early as I cold, as to beat the summer heat. The legs felt pretty good to start. I was sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. I made it there in good average time. The Banducci wall went as normal. Some traffic mitigation, but not too significant. I was near max going over the top. I headed up Arosa. I kept the tempo going. The HR was over 140 BPM most of the time. I was near max over the top. The morale was feeling better, knowing that the toughest part was behind me. I made my way around the backside and then to the Banducci summit. I pulled over and took a few moments rest. I checked the GoPro camera and it still had about 52% charge remaining. After that, I headed down the mountain and made my way to SS. I was doing about 17 MPH average on the way there, through the farmlands. My left shin was starting to show signs of soreness, so I had to stretch on a few occasions in order to keep it in check. The same thing for my left knee. It had some mild soreness that never escalated. That seemed to do the trick because it never escalated. Once around the backside, I headed downhill and into town. I zipped my way through and then headed back on the farmlands. I forgot to check my time at the SS tunnel. I was doing steady tempo. No heroics. I had a tail-cross wind most of the way back. I made it to Boss Hogs in about in 1:40-ish hours. The last climb went well. I had to pull over to swap out the battery on the GoPro. The first half mile was the toughest. Then I was able to settle into a steady tempo that I sustained for the remainder of the climb. When I reached the summit, I checked my provisions. I had enough fluids to get me home. So, I didn't go through any of my third bottle. Route 202 was mostly traffic mitigation. Once I made it to OTR, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good. The morale was on the positive side. There were many cyclists out today, and that was encouraging. Some of them were likely doing just as I was, training for the "T" ride. Balance and form was good. Ailments, some left shin and knee soreness. Stretching and massaging the area seemed to keep it under control. Perhaps icing could have helped. Gear worked perfect. Nutrition was spot on. I went through my Gatorade and a bit more than half my water. Other notes, there were at least ten riders out there today.
