Today was a perfect day for riding. The temperature was just right, about 70 degrees. Winds from the north west. I wore the standard kit. I felt good going out the door. I knew I was going to put in a good ride from the start. It didn't take much time to get warmed up. I was plenty warmed up by the time I reached route 202. I climbed Banducci in good tempo. No digs over the wall. I recovered on the false flat and continued with good tempo to the summit, with a slight dig. I took a few moments to recover and started the descent. I had a blast, reaching 42mph into a headwind! From there, it was the usual trek through the farm lands. I kept good tempo for the majority of this leg. When I reached the climb going into the back end of SS, my left leg started to give me problems. The outer tendon near the knee started to tighten up and almost felt like it was going to start cramping. This was mostly noticeable when I was out of the saddle or pushing hard. I decided to back down the tempo and see if I could give the leg some time to recover. In the meantime, I commenced the tempo moderate. I reached the tunnel under an hour. By the time I made my way to the exit of SS, my left leg had recovered and the pain went away. I commenced the Banducci leg to Pelisser in moderate tempo, keeping a sharp eye on traffic. Once I made it to Pelisser, I upped the tempo from moderate to good and held it all the way to the last climb. I made it to Boss Hogs in under an hour. A positive sign that I was going to put in a good ride. I put in a good effort on the last climb. I did good to high tempo to the summit, no digs over the top. My body was responding well and my left leg showed no signs of cramping. I used the flat section to recover, doing moderate to good tempo. After reaching Route 202, it was mostly fun and games. I pushed it over Mariposa, after-which I held good tempo all the way back to the door. Concentration was the lesser of things. I just couldn't get it in lock down in my mind. Perhaps not enough things to ponder while riding. This made it difficult to get into the zone. Ailments consisted of signs of cramping in the left leg, that subsided after 10 to 20 minutes. Some lower back soreness. Balance and form felt good. Gear is working well. I'm curious to find out how much buildup there is on the chain when I do the weekly cleaning. Other notes, I saw 2 other cyclists today as I was climbing Banducci.
