Today's weather was perfect for Keene. It was in the mid 50's. Winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit, with arms, knees, and a cap I put on before the start of the descent to Keene. I felt average going out the door. I put it in cruise control to the top of the descent, making it in average time. I put on my cap before descending. I soft pedaled most of the way down. Increasing tempo when I saw traffic behind. The weather warmed up as I was descending and it became apparent that I needed to remove some clothing before the ascent. When I reached the base, I began the climb with no stoppage. I decided to stop at the Chavez center and remove my cap and knee warmers. I think it was a good call. After that, I commenced the climb. I started with moderate and raised it to good tempo. Before the ascent, there was another cyclist climbing as I was still making my way down to Keene. I calculated that he was about 1 or 2 minutes ahead of me. Stopping at the Chavez center added about 3 or 4 minutes. He became the carrot while I was climbing. I felt good overall, my legs felt strong. I was able to hold high tempo where it counted most. I kept a strong pace for most of the climb. By the time I reached the summit, the carrot was about 200 yards ahead of me. Had I not stopped to remove my clothing, I would have caught him fairly easy. My concentration today was spot on. I'm currently working on a website, so that gave me stuff to think about. Ailments consisted of some mild back soreness. My right wrist continues to hurt, but is getting better every day. Balance and form felt good. Gear is working well. Other notes, I saw 4 other cyclists, 1 runner and a tour bus with dozens of people at the Loop monument.
