Again I find it difficult to describe this day.
First, the bike shop. Rusty asked all the right questions, and we came to the same conclusions. He checked all the connections and other areas of the bike, making adjustments as well. Conclusion is this, it is going to involve some educated guess work. He can figure out and fix anything given enough time and money with parts etc. One issue is that I’m not local to continue to troubleshoot, and the other is that mid trip is not the time to be tearing into something that is running, as it could create other issues in the process, so we left it alone. It would also have stopped me in my tracks for an indefinite period. I am completely at peace with where we left it, and not beyond returning later. His experience and methodical nature are so unique and valuable. We shall see.
I didn’t get on the road until noon, and on the way I couldn’t believe my eyes when I passed a sign to Sacajawea‘s gravesite! I added about 10 miles and probably 2 hours as I also got to connect with a few people in the process. Kenzie where I stopped for information, and Rowena & Pat, cousins from the East Shoshone tribe to which Sacajawea belonged. Her boys are also buried beside her. The cemetery has an old unmarked evangelical church in the center of it, which has been there since before these two ladies were little girls. Rowena shared things with me about her family, and I felt privileged.
I got back on my route, knowing I would be racing sunset once again. I passed beautiful painted hills, and fought off a 20 mph headwind mile after mile, with gusts that kept knocking my bike off course.
At one point I found myself shouting at the wind, “Bring it! …I’M STRONGER THAN YOU!”
A minute later I looked around at the landscape and a grin spread across my face as I thought, “This IS the adventure! ALL of it!”
I got to camp in time to quickly organize and plug-in. Dee was just returning to the pick up, and everyone else was in bed. So now I am in bed eating while I write this, lost the whole thing once, so I’ll edit my pictures as quickly as I can and hit the hay. Another showerless night. My feet stink.
Ran over my phone with my bike. A herding dog chased and nipped at me until I hopped off and went after him back, and it knocked my chain off the rails. Burned my shoulders. All in one little day!
My life is full and my heart is full. Sending you my love, ♥️Terri
