Missed yesterday ride because my right lower back had a real sharp pain, I didn't want to chance it hurting more than it was. It was still there today but not so sharp, I decided not to do my sprint/attack ride as planned so I started out fore an easy 30 miles. I get to Rte 70 into a headwind up an incline so picked up the pace and effort it felt good, then a slight decline, I maintained the power output and I was still feeling good not thinking I could keep up this effort I decided hold it until Lakehurst Rd joined Rte 70... I did so but was still feeling good so I decided to hold it to next turn off at the Super WaWa. I get there and was still feeling strong so it was to the next another about 1 mile, I get there same thing, now I was heading back to Rte 70 but was to cross over. I am really moving along I get up to Rte 70 but the traffic light just turned red and it a long light so I take the ramp to the right that would put me on 70 where I could continue without stopping. I had the momentum going and didn't want to loose it. I go about 2 miles then make a left off Rte 70 and was able to hold my pace. I decided to go for it to do the rest of the ride at this pace! I get about 1.5 miles and they were redoing the road so I made the left onto the road I was originally supposed to take so this was a great thing! Otherwise, I would have turned into the road and would have been forced to turn around. So this worked out great for me, Knowing I was now going a little longer than originally planned I was really wondering did I bite off more than I could chew... sticking to the new plan I stopped second guessing myself the only decision was I going to take the way I came up or the cut off and save 2.5 miles? I kept up the pace and before I knew it I was the cut off, I decided to make the best of this ride and venture on knowing in a few miles I would turn off onto 1 mile of very rough road that normally chewed up my legs something I wasn't really looking forward to. I get to the turn the road is clear all the way around I swing out wide to make my turn, the road super bad here and it is semi steep hill about 20 yards long, that isn't the problem at the bottom is light sand and pot holes and ruts covering the entire road that you cannot miss all the way up! Once you get to the top the road isn't much better, this lasts for exactly 1 mile of brutality to your legs and bike! I powered my way thru doing everything I could not to loose my speed, I slowed a bit but was determined not to give up here, I got off the saddle to get my speed back and I was good . Finally I get to the turn off, this road has seen better days but is a far better than the torturer of what I just been thru. I don't know why but this section of the ride is always difficult, it is 3 miles of gutting it out, the last 1.5 miles is extremely difficult, there is a traffic light that is 90% of the time is red as it was on this ride. The road is very bumpy and pot holes that can blow out your tire and most likely damage your rim. Easy enough to miss if you are alert during the day light but not so at night! I normally take this part of the ride much slower as cool down, but today it is part of my push all the way home! I was so happy to finish the ride strong, I was wondering if I had it left in me. This ride was by no means fast on the grand scale but what it was for me where there's the will there is a way! My Dad and Mom have instilled this in me at an early age, I have lived by this most of my life and recently I have kind of lost site of it... no more!
