Oh my goodness, I can’t believe we are in Oregon!
I went bombing right past our Welcome to Oregon sign, with Cliff & Kathy and Paul all yelling at me and pointing at the sign. I turned around and we got some fun pictures.
A couple challenging hills but so much fun coming down! We had so much headwind coming uphill this morning that we felt like we were back in Kansas.🤣 Brownlee Reservoir brought back such memories from last year, exploring it because Uncle John (next door) grew up here and his dad worked at the power plant on the dam.
I remember riding through the canyon in 105° heat last year, I don’t think I even realized it was uphill the whole way. I remember thinking, “I’ve got nothing left inside and am riding on pure grit,” and that made me feel good because I knew I had had to build that. I also remember seeing a tree loaded with tiny yellow plums the size of big cherries out in the middle of nowhere. I had a quart Ziploc baggie with me and filled it. They were tart but a juicy and good treat.
Today riding downhill through the canyon with a nice breeze was such a joy, I just sang and flew!
Seeing MY familiar landscapes and touching MY memories became very dear today. I am excited to be getting near to home.♥️
We are at Copperfield RV Park and have been waiting several hours for Dave to arrive with our gear. Apparently he headed to Baker City, tomorrow’s destination, a 200-extra mile scenic route. We may just need to jump into the river in our riding clothes.🤗
Last year, when I rolled in to this campground in that intense heat, I stopped and asked a small group where the camp host was. Something they saw in me alarmed them, and they encouraged me to jump in the shower and cool off. But I was locked out of the motorhome and Tom was out riding, so one man went to his wife in their RV and she came out with a towel, washcloth, soap, and shampoo for me! Well this year I spotted the other couple that had been visiting with them at the time, and we chatted a little while. They said the other couple was there too. I thought that was pretty amazing, and it brought back grateful memories. I still remember how good that shower felt!! And after returning their things, I went to our site and laid down on the grass under a tree. I slept for 3 hours, while the other three arrived and set up camp all around me. I distantly heard my name a few times and felt my feet burning as the sun moved but just tucked them up under me, and slept it off. I missed the swimming treks to the river but recovered well and got in on Tom barbecuing pork chops for us all.😋
I am struggling with weak Wi-Fi and only able to load three photos. This might not go out until I reach Baker City tomorrow.
With love, Terri
