This is the first ride without company. As expected, the first few miles felt unusual. However, it didn't take much to get back into my zone. I cruised the downhill. No hurries. The left outer knee was bothering me a bit. So, I was having to take it easy. I put in two modest digs on the risers then made my way down to the base of the climb. From there, it was non-stop climbing. The left outer knee was a bit tender, so I was having to back off until I could determine what it was going to do. The miles went reasonably fast. It didn't feel like the climb was dragging on and on. I had a few things to think about. About half way up the climb, my knee started to feel a bit better. So, I was able to put more pressure on that side of the body. I was calculating the minutes on the last couple miles to keep my concentration going. It definitely helped and gave me incentive. Concentration was good. Even without company, I felt like I was able to find my usual zone. Balance and form was good. Perhaps I need to adjust the saddle height a bit and check the cleats. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs, I had most of my Gatorade and a sip of water. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, there was a train on its way down as I passed the Loop Monument. It was stopped on tracks near the 58 bridge as I was ascending. There were some spectators at the Loop Monument when I was passing by on the ascent.
