This is a pretty brutal ride. The route begins from Fields Bridge park in West Linn. This may not be the best starting point as there is ongoing tree removal through October. Lengthy delays. The first section covers Borland Rd to Sagert Rd and then to Boone's Ferry Rd. There are a few rollers to get the legs going. The next portion is the Graham's Ferry and Wilsonville Rd leg. There is more climbing, especially on Wilsonville Rd. At mile 22.3 is Newberg. Take South Springbrook Rd through town, crossing 99W. Continue on Springbrook toward the Chahelm hills. At mile 25.4 is a steep, 0.7 mile climb. Most of this climb is 10-13%, with a brief 14%. Relief comes at NE Bell Rd. Enjoy 1.5 miles of mostly downhill to the Highway 219 junction.
Next comes the long climb through the Chahalem Hills. This is a 3 mile climb with 750 ft elevation gain to the summit (mile 30.7). A nice, long descent awaits, going into Scholls. At mile 36.4 turn right onto Scholls-Sherwood Rd. Normally the first 4 miles are a cruise, but not today. Had a south to southwest wind. There are a couple short, steep hills just before reaching 99W. Cross 99W and ride about a mile to Woodhaven City Park for a rest stop (mile 43.3). Just after the rest stop another 8-9% hill awaits, followed by a downhill to a stop sign at Baker Rd. Turn right onto Baker Rd. There is yet more climbing. Today it was climbing into a headwind. There is one more steep pitch (9-11%) just before Tooze Rd. Continue past Tooze Rd to Westfall Rd. Go left on Westfall for a long downhill. At Graham's Ferry Rd, turn left and return via Sagert, Boone's Ferry and Borland.
