The ride was an easy Zone 2 power ride, not pushing at all, just enjoying the night ride! All was going great... feeling good, legs a little sore, no major complaints, this route is one of favorites. I'm on the last 7 miles then wham, I go down... my brain goes crazy as I make body contact with shoulder of the road and then my helmet makes contact (helmet is broken and deep scrapes, is no good and unsafe for future use) I let out a grunt Kiai (martial arts control breathing, so I don't get the wind knocked out of me), I am sliding on the road and feeling the scraping of the road on my body! Then I think of my bike that I am holding on to and that my feet are still connected to, I look at it and it looks in one piece. I stay on the ground for a few seconds to make a quick assessment on my body, feeling all the scrapes and pains but looking to feel if anything feels broken... I move to sit up so I can get my composure and better feel my body. I feel nothing of an emergency level, I get to my feet, still feeling OK, now I pick up my bike and the initial inspection all looks OK? I pull the bike onto the shoulder with me the front wheel wouldn't turn, I looked at it closer, nothing looked broken or bent so I loosened the brake, it spun no wobbles or issues, so I kept the brakes that way. I checked the rear and it spun freely and true. I see the rear derailleur was scratched up but nothing damaged, need to check closer making sure the hanger is straight and true. So, I thought for how hard I hit the road I was luck the bike wasn't more damaged, a few scratches and small tear on the rear corner of the saddle, all livable. I noticed the brake levers out of alignment, so pushed the left side back but it still didn't look right, now I went to adjust the right side... crap the carbon bar was snapped in half just above the brake lever. What kept it together was the way I wrapped the bar, I used 2 sided clear tape under the bar tape which keeps the bar tape in place, tight and gives extra shock absorption. I was able to ride it home to complete the ride, I took my time because I couldn't use the rear brake. Made it home safely, removed bike computers, cameras and misc., put bike up on ceiling hooks, took pictures and wrote up this ride report and now doctoring up the road rash and consoling myself, 😎 ouch!
