It was frosty, sunny as I rode to Uxbridge. Lawrie, Les, and John M. joined me for the short ride. We set off up Chandlers Hill and on to Black Park for morning coffee. While there the Jenkins clan (Jane, John, Clive, and Luke) rolled in.
Leaving them to enjoy their coffee we four made our way to lunch at The Red Lion, Langley Marish* via Stoke Poges and George Green.
After lunch we followed NCR61 down across the A4 and through Ditton Park, over the M4 and on through Colnebrook en route to Thorney Park Golf Club for afternoon tea or coffee.
Leaving the golf club we set off along the track to Trout Lane. John, Les, and myself headed for Hillingdon via Royal Lane while Lawrie continued up Falling Lane to home.
A simple ride made superb by the weather and the company
*The place-name Langley derives from two Middle English words: Lang (meaning Long) and Leah (meaning wood or clearing). Historically, Langley was made up of a number of clearings, known as: George Green, Horsemoor Green, Middle Green, Sawyers Green and Shreding Green. These became the sites of housing, which merged into one large village centred on the church in St Mary's Road. The former clearings are remembered in the names of streets or smaller green fields.
The appended Marish or Maries commemorates Christiana de Marecis, who held the manor for a short time in the reign of Edward I
