Today's weather was warm, but was more about the wind conditions. The winds started from the South. This meant for a less than average leg to the end of OTR. I was sufficiently warmed up by that time. On the way out to WS, the wind was more of a cross/head and somewhat turbulent. I cruised it to WS doing moderate tempo most of the way. I was looking forward to the return trip. I had a nice tailwind and the miles seemed to tick over fast. I was playing it by ear today. First, I decided to do the Alpine Forest. But first I had to get over the Banducci wall. I was able to hold a good tempo, doing near maximum over the top. I knew what the Alpine forest felt like, so when I got there, I started modest. Letting my body to settle into a tempo within my limits. It was steady as she goes. I was in my 28T most of the time and putting it into my 32T when needed. I felt pretty good, but my left hip felt sore nearing the last turn onto Alps. I ended up stopping before the road kicked up again, stretched for a minute, than continued. My hip felt better for the remainder of the climb. When I reached the summit, I took a minute or two break. Stretched, hydrated, refilled my bottle. I let traffic by and then descended the mountain. The wind was turbulent, so I was having to fight the wind on the way down. Only till the bottom was I able to practice my tuck. While making my way down the mountain, I realized that the wind was unpredictable, so I decided to scratch the SS loop. I ended up cutting through the farmlands and headed back. The trip through the farmlands was mostly steady tempo. Easing up where I could and putting my cookies where the wind was at its worst. The last climb was mostly moderate tempo, at this point, the wind was somewhat of a head/turbulent. So, I was grinding my way up. A modest push over the top. I was relieved when I reached the false flat. I was able to soft pedal and get the life back into my legs. The trip down Route 202 was mostly traffic negotiation. Then OTR, it was a lot of fun due to the tailwind at this point. I was able to practice my tuck, reaching over 40MPH. The grind over Mariposa was fun, again, the tailwind provided an extra leg in my body. From there it was cruising to get home. Concentration was very good. I was able to stay in the zone almost the whole trip. Little to no signs of gremlins. Ailments consisted left hip soreness, mitigated by stopping and stretching. the bottom of my left hand has a calass and required that I adjust my riding position. Some mild lower back soreness, almost not worth mentioning. Balance and form felt good today. Gear is working flawless. Other notes, I saw 2 other cyclists today.
