I had to put in a big ride to prepare for the soon to be, Caliente Ride. The wind was in my favor, from the North West.
The legs felt so so today. A good average day. I guess they were sore from the previous days' core training. The left lower knee was sore. I was hoping it would go away as the ride progressed. It subsided, but not 100%. It didn't detract from the ride much. I decided to bring my jacket at the last moment. I'm glad I did. I made it to the summit of OTR in average time. The Banducci Wall and climb to the summit went as usual. Not too much red-lining. Some traffic mitigation. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recoup. Checked the GoPro battery and then headed down the mountain. I was already behind schedule, so I wasn't putting urgency into the ride. The trek through the farmlands was a slow march into the wind. I had to save some for later, so no redlining it through this segment. I made my way to the summit around the backside of SS and then downhill. I stopped at the local park for a nature break and then got back on the road. I reached the tunnel in about 1:11 hours. So, not so good time today. I zipped through town and got back on the farmlands. At least I had a mostly tailwind from here on out. I kept the tempo steady. Stretching when I could. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:35 hours. Give or take, so I didn't give up much time. The last climb went well. The legs were fatigued, but not too heavy. I kept the tempo steady. Out of the saddle most of the time. I stopped once to take photos of the local cattle. After making to the summit, I pulled over to swap the GoPro battery and then got back on. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, but wasn't too bad. The OTR descent went fast. It was enjoyable and I was able to recover a bit. Mariposa was the usual grind. After reaching the summit of Weston, I shut it down. Concentration was good. I had some things to think about. The morale felt good. Nutrition was good. Interesting that I didn't have to feed and my Gatorade mixture was less than the previous SS ride. Ailments, some hand soreness. Balance and form was good, not great. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw about 4 cyclists today.
