It’s getting warmer, but only in the 70’s. Winds from the North West. A great day for a big ride. I decided to go to the Alpine Forest and then SS.
The legs felt pretty good to start. I was wondering how they were going to feel after yesterday's core training. Turns out they were fine. I was a bit slow from the increase in temperature, but the body was adapting well. I was a bit impatient to start. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. Otherwise, went as normal. The Alpine Forest climb went quick. I guess I had stuff to think about and the morale felt good. I reached over 42 MPH on the descents leading to Banducci. After making it to the Banducci summit, I pulled over to take a few moments rest. Shortly after, headed downhill. I'm getting better at it. I reached 40 MPH towards the bottom. From there, it was the trek to SS. I was doing about 15 MPH into the wind, average. I zipped around the backside. The legs a bit fatigued. Then the downhill into town. Reaching 40 MPH. I stopped at the local park for a quick bio and then got back on the road. I reached the tunnel in about 1:20 hours into the ride. Plus or minus. I made my way through town and then back to the farmlands. There was a bit of a tailwind at this point. I was stretching when the traffic permitted. I made it Boss Hogs in about 1:40 something hours. I think I gave up a few minutes. So, not too bad. The last climb went well. I kept the tempo steady. No heroics. I kept the momentum going over the top. I pulled over at the summit. I wasn't having hunger signs at this point, so I decided not to feed. It was the right choice. Somewhere at this point, I realized I forgot to turn on the camera after the bio break in SS. Oh well. Nothing too important or striking happened. Route 202 had no traffic mitigation, so I was able to relax a bit. The OTR descent was enjoyable. Mariposa was the usual push over the hill. After reaching the summit of Weston, I shut it down. Concentration was good. Minimal gremlins out there. The morale was good. Gear worked flawless. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. I drank two Gatorade bottles plus some water. No refills necessary. I didn't feed a Clif Bar making it unusual. Other notes, I saw a cyclist as I was descending off Banducci. There was a snake on the road on my way out to SS. I was reluctant to take a photo of it.
