Had low expectations for this network based on various descriptions online but it turned out to be quite a good workout and enjoyable trail system. The two sections along the river were quite challenging with rock gardens, abrupt direction changes, large dips and obstacles. Typical NC trail system in that you have a plot of acreage and then stuff as much trail as possible into the (relatively) small space. It's a series of loops laid end to end with a 50-foot connector between them. Starts off extremely easy on the north end and gets progressively harder the closer you get to the river. Upper end is not-so-old pine forest with the trail covered in pine straw with a clay/sand tread underneath. Farther south are more hardwoods and more rocks; including many sharp turns with loose gravel to navigate as well as rock gardens and a few boulders. Given the eastern NC terrain, it was a surprise to see the very large boulders along the creeks headed toward the Neuse.
