It’s warming up! In the upper 80’s when we got out. Peggy and I went for a ride to Keene. We did the usual ride and regroup routine. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit in average time. We cruised the descent and regrouped on the risers. We took some photos at the Loop Monument. From there, we headed down a bit to the Keene Ranch, where Peggy turned around and I kept going to the bottom. I was a bit surprised that Keene wasn't as hot as I anticipated. I was checking the time, but I can't remember what the time was at the base. Nonetheless, I went back up the mountain without stopping. There was a tailwind at this point. The challenge was definitely the heat. It got warmer as the ascent went on. I had to ration my effort accordingly. There were a few places where the tarmac was radiating heat like no other. The landmarks came and went. Peggy and I met up about a mile from the summit. We regrouped at the top and then headed back home. Concentration was good. The music helped. The morale felt good. Balance and form was good. Gear worked flawless. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs, I went through most of my Gatorade, minimal water. Ailments, some hand numbness while out of the saddle. Other notes, there were two cyclists on their way up as I was descending to the base. I ended up catching one of them before the summit.
