What a perfect summer day! Glad I got out! The weather is in the low 70's. Cool winds from the North West. Perfect for a Keene Ride. The legs were a bit heavy to start. I don't recall the time at the top of the descent. The downhill was mostly relaxing and putting in two modest digs over the top. I reached the base in about 29 minutes. I spared no time to waste and headed back up the mountain. As I was climbing, I was passed by about 12 or more cyclists on their way down. It was nice to see them, but discouraging that I may have missed another organized event. Nevertheless, it gave me motivation as they were about 10 minutes behind me. I was constantly thinking if any of them would bridge. Likely too much of an ask. The landmarks went fast, and the thought that I was being chased hastened my tempo. Suffice it to say, I was going no less than moderate tempo. In and out of the saddle for the duration of the climb. With about a mile to go to the summit, I was confident that no one was going to catch up to me. I kept the tempo going over the top and recovered once I got there. I decided to ride to Country Club road to see if there were any ride markers on the ground. There were none that I could see. From there, I headed back up to Weston and shut it down at the top. Concentration was good. Minimal gremlins. Ailments were minimal. Some right knee soreness that never escalated. The usual hand numbness while out of the saddle. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my Gatorade, no water. Gear worked flawless, although I could hear a slight grinding / clicking noise while out of the saddle on the climb. Will reseat the stem to see if that changes anything. Other notes. I just checked the TehachapiNews.com website. There's no mention of an organized ride. Will check Kern Wheelmen next.
